"Nightmare" Trailers/Commercials/TV Spots & Promos

With the success of the "Nightmare" board game series, many commercials were made as well as TV spots were put out too.  I wanted to list them here, they are great!
My apologies, some of the videos I had to put into this blog via html so they are bigger and stretched.

If I find any other ads, promos, anything of the like, I will post them here in the future! Enjoy!

This is the music video taken directly after the Nightmare II game:

They never actually made Nightmare III & IV commercials (from what I could find), but they did make a TV commercial for Nightmare 1, 2, and 3:

I found this awhile back and was just laughing my @ss off!  Someone spoofed this "making of Nightmare III" and put their own take/twist on it.  Very well done and very convincing!

Promotional Videos & Other Fan-Based Videos

Obviously YouTube is still a very popular place to upload videos.  I have found some vids I'd like to share.

First is a promotional music video made back when the series had launched and was very popular.  It has that pop 90's sound to it too!  The main character who dances and sings in this video is "Baron Samedi" who is the host of "Nightmare II."  This has been named the, "Thrill Me" video which is a phrase the Baron uses in the second Nightmare game.

"Yo Baron, I can dig it!" ;-)

**Interesting note- The actor who plays "The Gatekeeper" in the original Nightmare game, Wenanty Nosul, (who also reprised his role as the Gatekeeper in the Harbingers game) also plays the Baron Samedi in "Nightmare II."  Actress Frederique Fouche, who played Anne de Chantraine in "Nightmare III", also played Elizabeth Bathory in the "Nightmare IV" game as well.

The video below is a promotional TV spot made in Australia (where the company who created the game is from):

And here is a video someone made of the game series- it's erm...interesting..lol

Just found this fan made video about an upcoming game they were in the process of creating about the character of Gevaudan the Werewolf.  Very well done teaser trailer!  Will be cool if they complete it in the future~

"Nightmare" Websites and Resources

I have stumbled upon a couple very resourceful websites created by fans of the "Nightmare" series~

Another website that has just about every board game known to man, listed is Board Game Geek~

You can even create your own profile with a wish list on BGG~

Another excellent website that has information I had never come across before~

These sites were created a number of years ago so there are many adds that pop up or certain pages don't have some of the links working, etc.  However, there is still resourceful information on them if you dig enough.

I'm sure I will be adding to this list whenever I find a new site~

Original Fan-Based "Nightmare" Videos

A person who goes by the name "CapitaineGMC" created around 13 original Nightmare/Atmosfear game videos several years ago.  They added characters that were from the original series and new one's as well.  I am listing each and every video on here.  They are full game videos- most of them are 60 minutes a piece which is what the original "Nightmare" games are in length.  Please keep in mind these are in French.  I do believe some of them have subtitles though.  I still need to look more into these but couldn't resist sharing them in my Nightmare blog!

First off, this is the direct link to the YouTube channel:        CAPITAINEGMC ON YOUTUBE

And here is their profile on Google +:        CAPITAINEGMC ON GOOGLE +

First we have, "L'lle Maudite"- seems to be an undead pirate of the sea!  Apologies, I don't know French and this description and video are all in French.

Part 1~

Part 2~

Part 3~

Now there's "Ahura Mazda, le Djinn"  Again this is all in French and no English subtitles.

And extra features from this game.

And here is a separate video of this same game, with English subtitles.

This is a video with "Gevaudan, the werewolf" as the host.

This is a character named, "Huno Kofman"

Below is the character, "Vera Renczi"

This is a different version of the character, "Khufu the Mummy"- French w/English subtitles.  The original "Nightmare V" featured Khufu the Mummy as well.

The "Bogeyman" is next.  French w/English subtitles.

Character "Jack O'Lantern" is below- no subtitles, just in French.

Atmosfear 7-  "Hellin the Poltergeist".  This is in French w/English subtitles.  This is an original character name from the Nightmare series and like all the others, this too is a fan made video.

Nightmare 8- "Zombo, the Demonic Clown"- again, fan made and is in French w/English subtitles.

The Nightmare Legacy and Re-release of "Nightmare/Atmosfear"

The Nightmare board game series had a major following in Australia, where it originated.  It was created by two men: Phillip Tanner & Brett Clements.  It was manufactured by a company in Canada, so there are many games still available and floating around there as well.  In the early nineties "Nightmare" took over and had every young teen and even adults facing the cold & cruel "Gatekeeper", who was the supernatural host of the original game.

Nightmare (or called Atmosfear outside of the US)

After the success of "Nightmare", there were three other expansion games made.  There was Nightmare II- with the zombie host, Baron Samedi, Nightmare III with the host being based off a real person of history- Anne de Chantraine.  Anne was only 17 years old when she was accused of witchcraft, she was tried, found guilty, and burned to death in one of the many 17th century "Great Witch Hunts."  She was the inspiration for Nightmare III and turns up the heat in this third installment of the popular series.  Then Nightmare IV has the infamous, "Blood Countess", Elizabeth Bathory as the vampiric host.

Nightmare III

Nightmare IV

There were even talks about making a movie with the characters (hosts of the games), but that idea never went any farther due to sales starting to plummet.  By the time the fifth expansion was to be created, sales were declining so they pulled the plug.  That was in 1995. They instead released the game called, "The Harbingers" that was also a VHS game and each player was a harbinger who had to face the "Soul Rangers."  I think I may have played this once as a kid but really can't totally remember the game.

The Harbingers

Harbingers Booster Tape #1

Harbingers Booster Tape #2 (only released in Australia & New Zealand)

The Soul Rangers

Atmosfear: The Ultimate Conflict (only released in the UK) This game was just "The Harbingers" doubled up with "The Soul Rangers"

Fast forward a bit to the 2000's.  Obviously VHS was becoming obsolete, however, that didn't stop this series!  A new version of "Nightmare" was released on DVD in 2004 called, "Atmosfear: The Gatekeeper."  Sales did fairly well, so in 2006 another DVD game was made for the series called, "Khufu the Mummy."

Atmosfear: The Gatekeeper

Khufu the Mummy

There have been other releases in between all the games coming out over the years.  There were two booster tapes released for "The Harbingers" that were add ons and offered a more challenging play, with only 45 minutes of game time versus 60 minutes.  There was then an add on for "The Harbingers" released in the mid nineties called, "The Soul Rangers." (pictures of covers above)

There was also a card game released called, "Atmosfear the Card Game" and was a lot like the game of "Spades."

In 1995 the "Atmosfear" computer PC game was released.  It was called, "Atmosfear The Third Dimension" and could be played individually or with multiple people.  The original Nightmare game concept was pretty much the same from what I have read.

The Atmosfear cell phone game was thrown onto the table in 2007, along with an idea of a TV series based off the games.  This was taken directly from the website, "bottomofthewell.webs.com":

"Shown sometime in 2007 along with the TV series, was a cellphone game that very little is known about.  As a matter of fact, only one image of it was released to the public, and has since been taken off line around the same time the TV show section of the website was, suggesting it had been cancelled.  The following image is what was shown, it was included in an "Atmosfear" collage that showed "The Gatekeeper", "Khufu" and this.

According to the same website, "bottomofthewell":

"Atmosfear-The TV Series~
Very little is known about the TV series due to the fact it was never released in any form and was most likely only in planning stages.  The series was to revolve around a group of kids who were sucked into a TV by the Gatekeeper and had to escape, all the while escaping from zombies and vampires, and most likely the other Harbingers as well.  Unfortunately not even a teaser picture of the show was released, so I can't upload anything to show."

According to the "Well of Fears" website, there was another PC game called, "Atmosfear Chain Game" and was a small game that was playable on the Atmosfear game homepage website.  You basically play against the Gatekeeper and have to swing from chain to chain to avoid falling in the lava beneath you.
A quote from the Well of Fears website,
"While the game only features one level of difficulty, it taunts the player to try a second time after completion going so far as to claim you couldn't win "twice."  Regrettably this message never changes, removing much replay value.  Also included is a sliding puzzle in which you move tiles marked with the Atmosfear "The Gatekeeper" cover art in an attempt to complete the image.  Much like the chain game that follows it, only one image is available for the game despite its claims for a "new puzzle."

I also found a fan based new "Nightmare" card game.  Here is the website for it, you can actually buy it.  Think if I have an extra $30 I will grab one up!  NIGHTMARE THE CARD GAME

Nightmare the New Card Game (based off the new Nightmare game)

And here is another fan based creation called, "Nightmare: A New Nightmare Begins!"
You can read more about it and also purchase it at this website:  CLICK HERE FOR WEBSITE

Here's a couple of pictures of this fan created board game~

Whew!  This blog took me awhile- I never realized how much "Nightmare/Atmosfear" franchise was either available or planned, but then cancelled.  If I find anything else in the future, I will be adding it to this blog.  That's actually why I moved my other blogs about these games into its own blog- there's so much!!!

Awesome Ebay Win!!

A seller on Ebay auctioned off 2 different "Nightmare" board games that ended on January 11th.

They had Nightmare 3 (Anne de Chantraine) and Nightmare 4 (Elizabeth Bathory).  The Nightmare 4 game had a bidding war and I didn't want to keep bidding because it was getting pretty high, but hey, you win some and you lose some, right?!

I DID however win the Nightmare 3 game from the same seller.  The awesome part is, both the Nightmare games they were auctioning off are sealed and NEVER BEEN OPENED!  They are from the early nineties and its rare to find them still sealed!!  I won the bid for $14.95 plus only $5 for shipping. :-)  Can't wait to get this game and be able to open it up- at least I know its in mint condition!

That being said, I already have Nightmare 3 but will turn around and flip/sell the one I already have and keep the brand new one.

The search continues for Nightmare 4- this game is tougher to find for some reason.  Perhaps it didn't sell as well as others and that's why not too many pop up that often.

Here's a picture of my wonderful win on Ebay earlier!

Here are some pictures of the game still sealed and freshly opened.  It was cool (and tough) to open something straight outta 1992!

Still sealed~

And opened~

The Nightmare/Atmosfear Series- Will This Quest Ever End?!

Like I mentioned in a couple other blogs, I currently have Atmosfear- the DVD board game that they basically made an updated version of the original "Nightmare" game, just with the different graphics and Gatekeeper.  Then there is the original game called, "Nightmare" with the original host, the Gatekeeper- this version came with a VHS tape.  "Nightmare II", III, and IV were simply expansion games that all came with VHS tapes.  So in order to play these three, you have to have the original "Nightmare" game because the original board and dice are needed.

My "Nightmare" game- front of box:

Here are photos of my "Nightmare" 2 & 3 games:

"Nightmare II":

"Nightmare III":

So at this point I need the fourth game and then the most recent game in the series called, "Khufu the Mummy" which comes with a DVD.  I thought the search was over.  I was wrong.

I found a handful of videos uploaded to YouTube, however, they are all in French with English subtitles.  But when I Googled further information for the Nightmare/Atmosfear series, those do not pop up.  However, after further searching, I found the person on YouTube who had uploaded these different versions that I had never heard of before.  Here this person loved the series so much, they made their own!  How cool is that?!  Here is is channel link on YouTube:

I found out "Khufu the Mummy" was never released in the USA, so the DVD it comes with poses a problem- its a different "region DVD" meaning most countries run on a different region for a DVD or VHS, even a PC (CD ROM) game.  For example, if I were to buy, "Khufu the Mummy" from the UK, the DVD will not work in the players over here in the United States.  My only hope is to find the entire DVD online that someone would have put up in a zip file, then turn around and burn it onto a disc because that's the only way I will be able to play the game.  Headache!  I usually can always get things to work out in the end so this will be a process...lol

Here's pictures of Nightmare 4 and Khufu the Mummy:

The Original "Nightmare" aka "Atmosfear" Board Game

I recently received the first 3 "Nightmare" board games in the mail.  My parents normally give out gift cards because it's too tough to find exactly what Tony and I ask for...lol
It's okay, I do that for both my parents in return usually as well!  So I got an Ebay gift card and then had to pay extra out of pocket for the shipping on these games.  Good deal!

I got the original "Nightmare" (Atmosfear) game, "Nightmare II" and "Nightmare III"

I remember buying the original "Nightmare" game back when I was a kid but sold it at a garage sale years later.  I really didn't remember too much about it, but the other night Tony wanted to sit down and play it.

These are some pictures of the board set up, etc.  We pulled out a smaller flat screen because obviously we only have the VHS tape of the game and it would have looked horrible on our bigger TV in the living room.  We also had to dig out our VCR...glad we will have one!  Now we have to find time when we aren't at work and actually have some downtime to play the second and third installment games...

I've been throwing around an idea my husband came up with the other night.  He thought it would be cool for my hobby entity, "Devon's Domain" to sort of review certain board games along with other hobby items.  I have been thinking about maybe starting a YouTube channel for this and do short videos, upload them for free online.  Still thinking on that though.  Undecided.

The photo below is of the character I ended up with which was Gevaudan, the werewolf.  Of course, Tony's character Khufu the Mummy had to "photo-bomb" the pic I took! ;-)

It is tough to play a game like this with only 2 people but Tony actually really wanted to play it so next time we will have to get some friends to join in on the spooktacular fun!  I
I ended up winning because I collected all my character keys, and made it to the center of the board first.  Yay!  I'm sure the next ten times my husband will win though...lol  It's just the way it works!

All my character keys I collected:

Another picture of the board during gameplay:

Tony actually took a short video blip of us playing the game, however he took it off his smart phone and uploaded it directly to Facebook.  So I have to figure out how to grab and attach it to this blog.

Here's my hobby Facebook page, I have more photos and information on certain hobbies listed on this site plus the short video play, "Nightmare."
