I was about ten or eleven years old. My mom took me into a Toys R Us store in Eau Claire, WI over the weekend. I loved that store but unfortunately, it went out many years ago and now there is a Best Buy there instead. But at least the Toys R Us company didn't go out for good and I still like to venture over to the Twin Cities and browse. :-)
So back in 1990 or 1991, I found this board game that intrigued me. It was long and square, and actually looked like a coffin. In big bold writing it said, "Nightmare" on the cover. I remember it was around twenty dollars. I grabbed it off the shelf and bought it with my allowance money.
I couldn't play it right away, but as soon as I had a friend from school (Loni) over, she wanted to play it too. So we did and it was so much fun! We ended up playing it a couple more times that same day...lol It's funny, I have asked Loni if she remembers the game and she totally does to this day! I guess it's memories like that I hold close- it was innocent, fun times and I wouldn't trade those moments for anything.
When I got into my teens, I decided to sell my childhood games at a garage sale my parents were having, which is something I'm sure many do. When you're a teen, you don't play with stuff like that- it's too nerdy! But when you get older, who cares if you are nerdy? I know who I am and am not into these hobbies to impress people, I just want to have fun! :-)
Now that I'm in my thirties, I have decided to get some toys/games that I used to have, back. "Nightmare" is one of those. I have since snagged the original game, along with the expansion games II & III. I also found the "Atmosfear: Harbingers" game that I used to have as a kid. My husband and I were at a "Half Price Books" in Minnesota, and I ended up snagging this game up again for only $20. The other cool thing with this game was the fact that someone put the original VHS game onto a DVD. So now I don't have to use our capture card and put it on a DVD myself!
From the Gatekeeper, to Baron Samedi, Anne de Chantraine, Elizabeth Bathory, and onto the Harbingers and Soul Rangers- these games are timeless and perfect for Halloween or anytime of the year when you want spooktacular fun!!
"Now my little maggots, turn the lights down and the volume up- you have now stepped into your worst NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I still have to get the video from my hubby- he took a couple second video of us playing "Nightmare" about a month ago...I didn't know he was filming it right away...LOL
For now, I cannot embed this into the blog, but click on the link below and it will take you to the video:
